Electromagnetic technologies for critical stages of steel production, from liquid-steel processing and continuous casting to hot rolling and finishing lines.

At the core of every Rotelec solution is the same principle: using electromagnetic energy to control a specific process condition without direct mechanical contact with the steel.

Depending on the application, electromagnetic energy can be transformed into force, to control the movement of liquid steel, or into heat, generated directly within solid steel.

These two technology families, Electromagnetic Stirring and Induction Heating, form the foundation of the Rotelec product portfolio.

In billet and bloom continuous casting, product quality depends to a large extent on how liquid steel is controlled during solidification. In these compact sections, electromagnetic forces can be applied through rotative stirrers that set the liquid pool in motion around its own axis, improving heat transfer, shell regularity and the internal quality of the cast product.

The EMS family for billet and bloom casters should not be read as a sequence of similar machines, but as three intervention points along the same process. M-EMS acts in the mold, where meniscus behavior, first-shell formation and surface and subsurface quality are established. S-EMS works lower along the strand and helps improve internal homogenization, equiaxed structure and solidification control in specific casting domains. F-EMS acts in the final stage of solidification, where the product center is still mushy and the reduction of center segregation and porosity becomes the priority.

This logic makes it possible to select the right technology based on the actual process issue to be controlled, not on a generic machine preference. EMS therefore becomes a true process lever rather than an accessory added to the caster.

Key benefits:

  • better control of initial solidification and surface quality;
  • improved internal structure, with positive effects on the equiaxed zone, segregation and porosity;
  • a stronger balance between metallurgical quality, casting stability and plant productivity.

Rotelec develops EMS solutions for billets and blooms starting from the point in the process where control generates the highest value. The detailed product pages explain the specific role of M-EMS, S-EMS and F-EMS.

In slab casting, controlling molten steel movement means controlling surface quality, meniscus stability, internal cleanliness and caster continuity. But a slab cannot be treated like a billet. Its wide, flat geometry requires a different approach based on linear devices able to guide or brake the flow in the mold and, further down the machine, to act on the internal solidification structure of the strand.

For this reason, the slab family developed by Rotelec brings together two complementary functions. The first is mold flow control, delivered by systems such as Multi-Mode® EMS, Multi-Mode® EMB and Multi-Mode® EMB+S, which act in the mold to slow down, accelerate, stabilize or rotate liquid steel according to actual casting conditions. The second is control of internal solidification structure along the strand, delivered by S-EMS In Roll and S-EMS Box Type, which help improve slab internal structure, enlarge the equiaxed zone and reduce defects such as ridging and roping in the most sensitive grades.

That distinction is decisive. In the mold, the main objective is to govern the flow pattern and meniscus behavior. Along the strand, the focus shifts to internal quality and solidification homogeneity. This double logic is what makes the slab family more articulated and more strategic.

Key benefits:

  • better mold-flow control and improved meniscus stability;
  • reduction of surface defects, casting instabilities, downgrade and scrap;
  • improved slab internal structure and better final coil quality.

Rotelec develops electromagnetic solutions for slab casters starting from the point where flow or solidification must be controlled with the greatest precision. The detailed pages show the specific role of each technology within the family.

EMS FOR ELECTRIC ARC FURNACE açıldığında aşağıdaki yazı ve ekteki EAF-EMS resmini entegre edeceğiz.

EAF EMS is Rotelec’s electromagnetic stirring solution for Electric Arc Furnaces, designed to control liquid steel movement throughout the melting and refining cycle. At the core of the solution is DEAS® (Digital Electromagnetic Active Stirring), a dynamic stirring concept that adapts the steel-bath flow pattern to the actual phase of the heat.

Conventional electromagnetic stirring systems operate with a fixed flow pattern and mainly adjust magnetic field intensity. DEAS® goes further by using two independently controlled electromagnetic stirrers installed beneath the furnace shell and changing the magnetic field configuration according to process needs. The result is a more flexible EAF stirring strategy that supports melting efficiency, bath homogenization, operating consistency and productivity.

DEAS® uses two independently controlled electromagnetic stirrers installed beneath the furnace shell. The system operates with two distinct stirring modes, each developed for a different stage of the heat.

During the melting phase, the stirrers operate in Opposite Mode. This creates strong peripheral circulation inside the steel bath, increasing turbulence and promoting faster scrap melting and more effective heat transfer.

During refining, the system switches to Concordant Mode. Liquid steel is directed toward the tapping area and recirculated through the furnace, improving temperature distribution, chemical homogenization and overall bath consistency.

The key difference is therefore not simply how strongly the bath is stirred. DEAS® actively changes the electromagnetic field configuration to create the flow pattern that is most suitable for the process phase.
